  • Neon Tech, Inc. (database: waitlist signups and first-party analytics events)
  • Email delivery via our SMTP provider (transactional waitlist emails only)

We use data processing agreements where required. We do not sell personal data to third parties.

6. Cookies and website analytics

Cookies are small pieces of data stored on your device. We use a consent banner before loading non-essential analytics. You can accept or decline analytics cookies at any time.

Types of cookies we use

  • Essential cookies: Required for the site to work (for example session and security). These always run and do not require consent.
  • Consent cookie: soundguessr_cookie_consent stores your analytics choice (accept or decline) for up to one year.
  • Analytics cookies / storage: Loaded only if you click Accept. We use a session identifier in sessionStorage to count unique visitors without storing your email in analytics.

First-party website analytics

If you accept analytics cookies, we collect anonymous usage events on our own infrastructure (stored in our Neon database). We do not use Google Analytics or other third-party analytics scripts.

We may record:

  • Pages viewed and SvelteKit routes (including in-app navigation)
  • Referring website (if your browser sends it)
  • UTM campaign parameters from the URL
  • Country (from hosting geo headers), browser, operating system, and device type (from browser user-agent)
  • A daily visitor hash (derived from IP + user-agent + date; we do not store raw IP addresses in analytics)
  • Optional custom events (for example button clicks), if implemented on a page

Legal basis (GDPR): your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw consent by declining cookies or clearing site data in your browser.

We filter known bots and do not merge anonymous analytics with waitlist email addresses.

Retention: analytics events are kept for up to 24 months, then deleted or aggregated.

Managing cookies

You can delete cookies in your browser settings. If you decline analytics cookies, the site still works; only optional usage statistics are disabled.

7. App Permissions

Our app requires access to various functions and data on your mobile device:

  • Internet access: For retrieving game content and syncing profile data
  • Microphone: Required if users wish to create their own audio recordings
  • Location: Optional for creating location-based challenges
  • Storage: For storing downloaded audio files and profile data

You can adjust these permissions at any time in your device settings.

8. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. Waitlist and email updates

If you join the SoundGuessr waitlist on our website, we store your email address so we can notify you about the product launch and related updates. We do not sell your email address.

To understand which campaigns bring signups, we may also store:

  • UTM parameters from the link you used (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign)
  • The page you first opened on our site (landing_page)
  • The referring website URL, if your browser sends it (referrer)

This attribution data is linked to your email only because you submitted the waitlist form. It is not merged with anonymous analytics cookies.

Legal basis (GDPR): your consent when you submit the waitlist form (Art. 6(1)(a)).

Retention: We keep waitlist data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After unsubscribe we keep a minimal record (email + opt-out status) so we do not email you again, unless you request full erasure.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in our emails, or by contacting us at info@soundguessr.com.

You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing or contacting us.

10. Data retention (summary)

  • Waitlist / email data: until unsubscribe or deletion request (minimal opt-out record after unsubscribe unless you request erasure)
  • Analytics (if consented): event data in our database, up to 24 months
  • Consent cookie: up to 12 months
  • Server logs (hosting): short-term technical logs by Vercel for security and operations
